Burst Pipe Horror
Yesterday afternoon disaster struck in Oban after a burst water pipe flooded an elderly woman’s home
Reports show that the leak preceded the internal stop-cock, which lead to gallons of water pumping into her kitchen.
The 79 year old, Anne Lennox, became extremely distressed when the main stop-cock could not be located by her family or even the plumber.
This case shows the crucial importance of property owners knowing where their main stop-cock is located.
As with this situation knowing so would have reduced the damage caused considerably. After failing to find the main stop-cock the plumber advised calling Scottish Water to turn the street’s water supply off.
Anne’s daughter criticised Scottish Water’s slow response time stating they did not recognize “the severity of the situation”. By the time the water was turned off the water flooded the foundations and spread through the kitchen to the living room.
Anne describes the ordeal as “horrendous”, adding “it just went from bad to worse”.
