The Problem
On behalf of a Building Civil and Engineering Contractor, The Ideal Group responded to an oil spillage in a maintenance area of Heathrow Airport. Six months after estimating the clean up work our estimate was approved and an order placed. The delay in placing the order made it a more difficult task to remove the oil.
The spillage was in a highly restricted area requiring strict health and safety measures, and security controls of the technicians working in the area.
The oil spillage covered around 200m² and The Ideal Group surveyor Martin Weeks recommended the use of our DOFF system and the application of a specialist cleaning solution to remove the oil. The formal quotation was raised, accepted, and the works booked in. The main problem centred on keeping the runways open, and a strict programme of works with time allocations was agreed. We are proud to have successfully removed the oil and in doing so delivered a total solution that meet the client’s requirements.

Health and Safety – Bespoke risk assessments and method statements were completed and submitted to the Adenstar Group; and once authorised, after a technical briefing the technicians delivered a safe and effective solution to remove the oil spillage.
Security
All of the technicians were trained to CSCS level and carried identification with them at all times. The Ideal Group followed the strict booking in process to ensure the rules of entering the site were adhered to, including taking vehicles inside the restricted areas.
