Major Fire Damage after rioting in Manchester
Case Study of Major Fire Damage after extensive Rioting in Manchester
A major fire to a commercial premise in Manchester following the riots took hold of the internal structure of this Miss Selfridge retail store as can be seen by the photo.
Once The Fire Brigade had finished fire-fighting the blaze and had left site our brief was to clean the remaining internal structure.
THE PROBLEM
During the riots looters had smashed the shop window and a rioter had then set fire to a dress which adorned a manikin displayed in the window. Fortunately the fire did not spread throughout the premises, and was extinguished before it could cause too much structural damage.
However soot and smoke from the fire now covered walls and ceiling sections on all three floors of the store. This included two floors of shop display areas, offices, a storage room, and a training room on the top floor. This all needed to be cleaned prior to the shop refurbishment by our clients who are specialist shop fitters.
THE SOLUTION
The Ideal Group went rapidly into action and began the process of performing fire damage clean up for all of building. The soot which had blackened the ceilings on two floors was cleaned and removed using a soda blasting technique. A compressor was set up outside to operate this equipment and the cleaning was completed during a period of approximately 4 days by a team of 4 technicians from The Ideal Group.
The Commercial Project Manager from the shop fitters was very happy with the fire damage repairs work completed by The Ideal Group and commented:
“Thanks to The Ideal Group with their quick response, innovative solutions and thorough professional delivery on site. I am happy to recommend their services to anyone having to deal with a similar cleaning requirement”.
