Chatham Waterfront New Bus Station - Commercial Cleaning

The new bus station covered with wooden cladding and a green “living” roof, replaces a 1970’s concrete structure at the Pentagon shopping centre.

Services run from the bus station seven days a week serving destinations across Medway and Kent, and 1,100 buses use the new bus station every day.

Chatham Waterfront bus station consists of four platforms each with a number of individual stops on them. It is now the main hub for all bus routes through Chatham.

Job profile

Costing £7m financed by the government, it has opened up the waterfront and has connected it with Chatham town centre, which is Medway’s largest shopping area.

The Ideal Group were instructed by the construction company; who had been building the new bus station and wanted the station cleaned as soon as their work was complete ready for handover to their client Medway Council.

Business situation

The new bus station was built and the council offices were undergoing refurbishment, and there was to be a major uplift to its offices and welfare areas. It was scheduled for the works to be completed quickly to avoid interruption to normal business and they were keen to keep the bus drivers cafeteria open during this work.

Technical situation

The Ideal Group attended site and surveyed the work required. The brief was to complete a thorough clean to the new kitchens, remove protective sealing of the surfaces, clean the flooring and carry out hygiene cleans of the toilets sanitary ware. In addition to this, glass wind breaks, seating areas and signage within the new bus shelter waiting areas situated outside needed cleaning. This was to be started immediately after they had been worked on by the main building contractors.

Solution

The Ideal Group technicians arrived on site at 8am and completed a thorough “Deep Clean” and “Sparkle Clean” on all of the required areas.
