Professional Window Cleaning
Ideally windows should be washed twice a year for residential properties and six times a year for commercial properties.
Cleaning windows is better off done the professional way. It’s a far better way to get the windows gleaming and a much easier way to get rid of hard water/rain marks.
Our window cleaning gives our customer's buildings/properties that crystal clear image that can be seen inside and out. Before getting started, we make sure we have the right equipment:
- Professional squeegee and applicator
- Window bucket
- washing up liquid (yes, that's all you need)
- Micro-fibre cloth or chamois
Steps to washing windows:
1. Prepare your solution in the window bucket by adding a small amount of washing up liquid to cool water.
2. Dip applicator in bucket, wring out excess water, and then scrub the window.
3. Position squeegee in the upper left corner of the window. Let the squeegee glide down the glass quickly and smoothly.
4. Dry the squeegee rubber after each stroke.
5. To make the next pass, ensure the dry side of the squeegee overlaps the dry side of the window by about 1 or 2 inches. Continue that motion for the width of the window.
6. Use a micro-fibre cloth or chamois to wipe the edges and frames.
7. Move on to the next window.
Precautions to take when cleaning windows
- Never use abrasive cleaners on windows or window frames, as they can scratch the glass.
- When using a hand held scrapper to scrape off construction residue or particles like paint, be sure that the window is wet. NEVER use a scrapper on a dry surface.
- The same goes for using steel wool. NEVER use steel wool on a dry surface. Always wet the window first.
- Take caution when using acid cleaners. They should only be used in extreme circumstances like removing hard water spots. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to the letter and use gloves and goggles to protect your hands and eyes. If using an acid cleaner, be sure to protect the frame and wall below the window. Keep the acid from running over by placing an absorbent towel or drop cloth onto the window sill and floor.
- If using ammonia, use the same cautions as you do when using acid cleaners. Also be aware that ammonia can discolour the window putty with repeated use.
- Ladders are to only be used where windows cannot otherwise be cleaned safely. If using a ladder ensure it has been extended correctly and does not have any faults.
